The Matrix II Fan coil unit

The Concept

A Matrix fan coil is, to all outward appearance, exactly the same as any other Ability fan coil. However, the Matrix uses infinitely controllable and highly energy efficient EC/DC fans in combination with a unique control strategy, self balancing fans, and PICC valves that together provide for all intents and purposes a plug and play fan coil.

Self Balancing Fans

Our self balancing fans have a current draw and RPM sensor built in, using an input signal from the controller, a lookup table it affects a RPM change to suit the static resistance the duct work imposes.

Pressure independent characterised control valves

Pressure independent valves have been around for a while now. The characterised control valve aspect permits a certain amount of movement, to equate to a certain flow rate. All this means the traditional pull out and set cartridge system can be dispensed with, and the valve itself via the controller, can be used to limit the maximum flow rate.

The controls strategy

Using our native BACnet controller we enter your design water flow rates, and both design & setback air volumes at the factory. The controller then limits the amount it moves the valve to ensure the PICCV doesn't open beyond what would give design water flow rate, and based on your strategy modulate between design and setback air volumes.

The Matrix features:

  • Energy saving EC fans
  • Unique split plenum allows duct balance to be achieved using the fans
  • Variable Air Volume strategy as standard
  • Supply air limit for occupant comfort
  • Design water flow rates, & air volumes entered at works
  • No fan coil commissioning, its simply a checking process.
  • Increased time intervals between fan coil services.
  • Volt free contact for PIR or window sensors
  • Integrated zoning, allows a number of units to be put into thermal zones.

The Matrix System also:

  • Costs no more than a standard EC/DC Fan coil
  • Is native MS/TP BACnet
  • Minimises ceiling tile damage, as all parameters can be adjusted remotely
  • Simplifies fit out alterations, simply move the ductwork and the unit re-balances itself
  • Has a longer product life, fans running slower last longer..
